    Center map

The city of Mogilev is a fascinating place to visit. Founded in 1267, it is the administrative center of the Mogilev region in Belarus.

One of the things that makes Mogilev so interesting is its remarkable architecture, which is characterized by a mix of styles from different periods in history. The city is home to numerous churches, cathedrals, and chapels, each with its own unique story and design. One of the most impressive structures in Mogilev is the Cathedral of St. Stanislaus, a grand Baroque-style church that dominates the city’s skyline.

In addition to its religious buildings, Mogilev is also known for its impressive secular architecture. The city’s historic center is filled with grand mansions and elegant public buildings that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. These buildings are a testament to Mogilev’s rich history and the wealth and power of its former residents.

Despite the city’s many charms, Mogilev has not entirely escaped the legacy of Soviet rule. The influence of the Soviet era can still be seen in the city’s infrastructure, which is characterized by drab, functional buildings and broad, treeless streets. However, compared to some other cities in the region, Mogilev has managed to preserve much of its pre-Soviet heritage and charm.

Overall, Mogilev is a fascinating and unique city that is well worth a visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, or culture. Whether you come to admire the grand churches and elegant mansions, or simply to soak up the atmosphere of this historic city, you are sure to be enchanted by the many charms of Mogilev.

The Mogilev Town Hall is a fascinating example of the city’s rich history and architecture. Construction on the original wooden building began in 1578, shortly after Mogilev was granted Magdeburg rights. However, the building was destroyed by fire in the late 1600s and a new, larger stone building was constructed in its place beginning in 1679. This new building, however, did not escape the ravages of the Northern War, and it underwent several renovations and rebuilds before finally taking on its current appearance in 1733.

Today, the Mogilev Town Hall is a grand and imposing structure that serves as a symbol of the city’s proud history and enduring resilience. Visitors to Mogilev should be sure to make a stop at this historic building to admire its architecture and learn more about its fascinating past.

The weddings in the town hall never seemed to stop, one procession after another. The registry office worker could barely keep up with sweeping the petals from one wedding to the next.

And finally, a couple compositions for contemplation – to think about what goes with what and for what purpose.
